Start with the Child
Resource: The Council for Museums, Archives and Libraries has published
a new research report, The Needs and Motivations of Young People, which
profiles the changing social, emotional, personal and cultural needs
of young people. The research report was commissioned by Resource to
support the Start with the Child report by CILIP: the Chartered Institute
of Library and Information Professions, which explores the future of
libraries for children and young people. The research report, published
11 February 2003, was conducted by Morris Hargreaves McIntyre, is now
available on the Resource website at http://www.resource.gov.uk/information/publications/00pubs.asp
Renaissance in the Regions: A New Vision for England's Museums
This report is the outcome of a Task Force set up in 2000 under then-Secretary
of State for Culture, Media and Sport Chris Smith in response to people's
growing concerns about the state of England's regional museums and galleries.
Its recommendations present a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to transform
them.The report
recommends a new, integrated framework for the museums sector based
on a network of regional 'hubs' consisting of one museum and gallery
service with up to three partners. These hubs can then be developed
to promote excellence and be leaders of regional museum practice, working
alongside partner organisations such as national and university museums,
and strategic bodies such as the new Regional Agencies for museums,
archives and libraries. Click
