Off The Wall
An Arts Council of England initiative designed to encourage young
people to visit art galleries. The Arts Council's Visual Arts
Department commissioned Artswork, a youth arts development agency, to
devise and implement projects which would explore how young people can:
Influence the policy and programming of galleries and exhibition spaces;
Be encouraged to participate in the work of galleries and exhibition
spaces; Find outlets for exhibiting their own work. Click

Museums and Young
People
This report, funded by the Equitable Charitable Trust, seeks to
explore work with young people in museums and galleries. The Museums
Association invited Artswork, a youth arts development agency, to undertake
the report. The report looks at relationships between museums and all
young people outside of formal education.

Following on from
the report Museums and Young People, the Museums Association commissioned
a consultant, Suzanne Rider, with experience of working with young people
in museums, to work with a number of museums in devising projects for
young people and in preparing a funding application to the Lloyds TSB
Foundation for England and Wales. Click

Encouraging Long Term Development

ways to encourage young people to visit and engage in museum activities

Learning to Listen: Core Principles for the involvement of children
and young people. The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS)
http://www.culture.gov.uk/role/PDF/Updated_Core_Principles_AP.pdf
This action plan was published on the Children and Young People's
Unit (CYPU) website on 12th June 2002. The Action Plan has been drawn
up following the recommendations made in Learning to Listen - Core Principles
for the Involvement of Children and Young People, which was published
in November 2001. This set out the Government's commitment to ensure
that children and young people have a real say about the Government
policies and services that are relevant to them. The Principles, which
have been developed by the CYPU in close consultation with Departments,
are good news for DCMS and its sectors as actively involving children
and young people in this way will produce better services. They will
also lead to better outcomes for children and young people, and their
communities, as services are shaped to meet their real rather than presumed
needs. The Action Plan represents only the first step and results against
the Plan will be published in the CYPU's first Annual Report planned
for April 2003.
