About This Site The Opening the Doors website has been created to serve as a one stop shop for museum workers interested in working with young people outside of formal education. Primarily, this site will keep you up to date with the progress of the national project called Opening the Doors, a three-year programme of work aimed at encouraging young people to visit museums and galleries outside of formal education and to use the resources they offer. We decided to create this website as Opening the Doors is a 3 year project and is constantly evolving - so the web provides the perfect medium through which we can disseminate up to date information to as wide an audience as possible. It is also fairly cheap to sustain! As the website is developing we are realising more and more the full potential of being online. We hope that by sharing ideas, experience, models of good practice and advice, we can help you to run successful and rewarding projects with young people. If you have any
information, experience or projects you would like to share with others
then please SITE STRUCTURE The site is divided into two main sections - projects and resources. You can access their contents by clicking on the links below, or through the menu system to the left hand side of the screen: Projects THE FUTURE We will be developing
the website over the course of the project and are keen to include more
information and details of other projects taking place with young people
outside of formal education, independently of the Opening the Doors
project, both on a national and international level. Please We are also hoping to create a website for young people who have participated on projects or are interested in museums as a source of informal learning. The site could provide a forum for their work and a connection point for museum workers to access young artists, writers, and documenters.
